Stepson arrested in connection with Tracy Brannan's murder

The stepson of a Scottish woman who was stabbed to death in America has been arrested and charged with second degree murder, police said today.

Tracy Brannan, 33, originally from Glasgow, was attacked at the home she shared with her husband Harold, 60, who was also injured.

The couple married in May after Mrs Brannan, born Tracy Wyatt, moved to the US to start a new life. The pair were living in Omaha, Nebraska.

Her stepson, David Brannan, 21, is alleged to have attacked her and then stabbed himself. He was taken to hospital but was arrested after he was released following treatment.

A spokesman for the Omaha Police Department said today: "David Brannan has been booked into the Douglas County Correctional Centre for second degree murder, second degree felony assault and two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony."

In America when you are booked you are charged, the spokesman confirmed.

Police were called to the scene in South 122nd Avenue at 4.40am on July 24 and found three people with various stab and cutting injuries.

All three were taken to Nebraska Medical Centre.

Mr Brannan needed hospital treatment for his injuries but was later released, while his son remained in hospital.

Shelly Stratman, a Deputy County Attorney for Douglas County, said the charges had been filed with a judge today.

She said: "He will appear in court tomorrow at the Douglas County Correctional Centre. The judge will set a bond and set a date for a preliminary hearing."

Before moving to the US, Mrs Brannan worked for Loch Fyne Oysters near Inveraray in Argyll for 15 years.
