Shipping placed on whale-watch alert

SPAIN is advising ships passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the world's busiest maritime lanes, to slow down and look out for whales.

The channel between Africa and Europe is a principal feeding ground for whales and several are hit each year, some killed or injured, by ships.
