A neighbour, who asked not to be named, told IOL news: “This is a quiet community, this is shocking, I still cannot believe it.
“I saw her on Saturday afternoon last. She had some friends over.
“She wouldn’t let anyone get to her. It’s so strange because we didn’t hear anything, no struggle or a gunshot.”
Police spokesman Capotain FC Van Wyk said: “The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. A post-mortem will be held to establish the exact cause of death.”
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that it was aware of the incident and was providing assistance.
Mrs Malcolm had lived in South Africa for 35 years, and is survived by her two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Scotsman understands she had been planning on visiting family in Dundee next month.
