Prosecutors may drop Strauss-Kahn sex case

Prosecutors will ask a judge to dismiss all charges in the sexual assault case against former International Monetary Fund director Dominique Strauss-Kahn at a hearing tomorrow, a US newspaper reported yesterday.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office will file a motion recommending the case be dropped, the paper said.

Strauss-Kahn, 62, who has denied the allegations, was accused by a maid, Nafissatou Diallo, of sexual assault on 14 May at New York’s Sofitel Hotel. He was arrested and forced to resign as head of the IMF a few days later.

In late June, prosecutors disclosed that Ms Diallo, 32, a Guinean immigrant, had lied on her US asylum application and about other aspects of her past.

The paper said the motion would make clear prosecutors do not believe they can prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
