Prisoners escape jail in hijacked helicopter

Two prisoners escaped jail in broad daylight, after climbing a rope into a waiting helicopter.

The Canadian prisoners were later hunted down and recaptured after ditching the hijacked chopper and attempting to flee in Quebec.

Benjamin Hudon-Barbeau, 36, was recaptured initially while and Danny Provencal, 33, barricaded himself in a building and was surrounded by police before being detained.

A radio station in Montreal said it had received a call from a man claiming to be Hudon-Barbeau, telling the broadcaster that he was ready to die as he was hunted by police.

It was claimed that the helicopter had been hijacked from a tour company. Police found the chopper over 50 miles away from the prison and the pilot, who is being treated as a witness, was taken to hospital to be treated for shock.
