Monks are held over self-immolations

Chinese police have arrested five Tibetans, mostly Buddhist monks, whom they allege persuaded three people to set themselves on fire in anti-Beijing protests.

The arrests are the latest in an intensified crack down on self-immolations and indicate that China’s new leadership is clamping down on repeated protests calling for greater freedom.
