Molten metal 'splash' kills worker

MOLTEN metal splashing from a smelter at a Russian nuclear plant killed one worker and severely burned two others, the country's nuclear agency said yesterday.

The agency said radiation levels remained normal because the reactor inside the Leningrad nuclear plant near St Petersburg was being repaired.

A plant spokesman blamed violations of technical and production regulations for what he called "a splash".

The 33-year-old worker died of his injuries yesterday morning following the incident on Thursday.
