Moldova in ban on cemetery BBQs

The mayor of Moldova’s capital, Chisinau, has banned people having barbecues in the city’s cemeteries after reports that the country’s day of reflection had turned into a day of debauchery.

Dorin Chirtoaca said that after laying flowers in memory of the dead in the week following Orthodox Easter “a lot of people were drunk when they left”, adding that authorities had to clear 60 tonnes of rubbish from the St Lazar cemetery alone.
