Mars landing 2021: Nasa unveils first-of-its-kind photos of the red planet

Nasa has unveiled never seen before pictures captured by the Mars Perseverance rover as it touched down on the red planet on Thursday, February 18.

The images show the Martian surface below, the rover and dust on the surface being disturbed before it finally touches down.

Perseverance will spend the coming years searching for signs of microbial life in a mission that will bring back Mars samples to Earth preparing the way for future human visitors.

Selected samples will be collected by drilling and sealed in sample tubes.
