Marilyn Monroe may have had cosmetic surgery

DOCUMENTS which appear to show Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe had cosmetic surgery are going up for auction, it was revealed yesterday.

The alleged plastic surgery appears in medical notes being put up for sale along with a set of six X-rays – all taken from Monroe’s medical history files,

The cosmetic surgery notes were written by Hollywood plastic surgeon Michael Gurdin and while they do not state the actress went under the knife, they strongly hint that she had.

Dr Gurdin’s notes imply that a 1950 cartilage implant in Monroe’s chin began to dissolve.

After allegedly having plastic surgery on her chin the iconic actress would go on to star in some of her most famous films including How to Marry a Millionaire, The Seven Year Itch, and Some Like It Hot.

The auction’s seller, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said they received the notes and X-rays from Dr Gurdin as a gift.

Monroe’s medical records are being sold off by Julien’s Auctions, which is based in Beverly Hills, California, with officials there saying they are due to go under the hammer for up to $30,000 (£18,000).

Martin Nolan, executive director at the US-based auction house, said: “Nobody really thought about Marilyn Monroe having plastic surgery. It was always speculation – did she or didn’t she? They thought she was such a natural beauty, they didn’t want to believe.”

Monroe’s X-rays are dated 7 June, 1962 and were taken after she had a fall late one evening. They were taken just two months before the 36-year-old cinema icon would die from an overdose of barbiturates.

The six X-rays include captures of Monroe’s frontal facial bones, a composite right and left X-ray of the sides of her nasal bones and dental X-rays of the roof of her mouth.

Doctors used the name “Joan Newman” as Monroe’s alias on the X-rays, which list her height as 5ft, 6in and her weight as 115lb.

These are not the first X-rays of Monroe to go on sale, a 1954 set sold for $45,000 in 2010. The 1954 set featured three chest X-rays.

The new medical items will be auctioned in California next month.
