Male circumcision bill becomes law

German MPs approved a bill yesterday that explicitly permits male infant circumcision.

The move ends months of legal uncertainty after a Cologne court ruled in June that the religious practice amounts to bodily harm. Jewish and Muslim groups feared the ruling could have led to more prosecutions.
