Lindsay Lohan sues Rockstar over GTA V character

ACTRESS Lindsay Lohan is suing the Scotland-based makers of bestselling video game Grand Theft Auto V amid claims they based a character on her without permission.

The 28-year-old’s lawsuit was filed yesterday in a New York court.

The makers of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games and Edinburgh-based Rockstar North, declined to comment.

The character allegedly based on Lohan is Lacey Jonas. A minor figure in the game, Jonas is a famous actress who appears trying to dodge paparazzi. She goes on to complain about how difficult it is to be famous.

The video game’s cover, which features a blonde woman in a red bikini taking a selfie and flashing a peace sign, is an image also understood to be included in the lawsuit.

The papers lodged by Lohan’s lawyers in Manhattan say: “The portraits of the plaintiff [Lohan] incorporated her image, likeness, clothing, outfits, plaintiff’s clothing line products, ensemble in the form of hats, hair style, sunglasses, jean shorts worn by the plaintiff that were for sale to the public at least two years” before the game was released in 2013.

The suit also says the game features West Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont hotel, where Lohan once lived.

When Grand Theft Auto V was released in September last year, global sales topped £580 million in three days. In the UK it sold 2.25 million copies in five days.

Lohan, who has been dogged by drug and alcohol-related controversy in recent years and is currently on probation, is suing GTAV’s makers for unspecified damages.
