Kim Kardashian visit to Bahrain met with Islamic protests

REALITY TV star Kim Kardashian’s visit to the Gulf state of Bahrain was greeted with angry protests from Islamic protesters denouncing her presence.

The US celebrity, famous for her apearance in docu-soap ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’, was in the Kingdom to open a branch of her Millions of Milkshakes shop.

However just hours before the official opening, riot police fired tear gas to disperse more than 50 hard-line Muslim protesters.

An Associated Press journalist saw protesters chanting “God is Great” near the shopping complex in Riffa, about 12 miles south of the capital Manama. The demonstrators were cleared before Miss Kardashian appeared to open the store yesterday.

Witnesses said police dispersed the demonstrators with stun grenades as the inauguration proceeded inside. There were no reports of casualties.

Earlier, she posted glowing remarks about Bahrain on her Twitter account, calling it “the prettiest place on earth”. It was re-Tweeted by Bahrain’s foreign minister.

“It is my first visit to the country and I heard it was beautiful, but what I saw was beyond that,” she told fans in Bahrain.

“I was on the phone with my sisters and family telling them how beautiful it is. The country has lovely beaches and desert,

People from the States should come here because the people and the country are so amazing and welcoming that I am planning to be back here during my vacation,” she reportedly said.

Miss Kardashian was in Kuwait earlier this week to open another branch of the shop.

She had pledged to learn more about the Middle East following here controversial comments over Palestine and Israel.

As Hamas rocket squads aimed at Jerusalem for the first time on Friday, the reality TV star tweeted: “Praying for everyone in Israel”, and later, “Praying for everyone in Palestine and across the world!”

Her pledge to learn more about the Middle East included a visit to the desert to see camels.

In one of her numerous tweets during the trip, she said that she had a fun day out at the desert and posted pictures standing at some distance from camels and a photo of a glass of camel milk.
