Kabul on brink of cholera crisis

MORE than 2000 cases of cholera have been detected in the Afghan capital Kabul, sparking fears the city is on the verge of an epidemic.

Fred Hartman, technical director for a US Aid-backed health and development programme, said: "An epidemic is about to break out."

Mr Hartman said eight or nine people had died in the past two weeks, and warned the disease could spread quickly through Kabul's four million residents.
