The Oscar-winner, one of the most high-profile victims of the hacking of hundreds of explicit images of Hollywood actresses, called the leak a “sex crime”.

Until now the only comment from Lawrence had come from her spokeswoman, saying that she had asked authorities to prosecute whoever was posting the images.

Now the Hunger Games actress has told Vanity Fair magazine that anyone who looked at the images “should cower with shame”.

The 24-year-old said she had been “just so afraid” when the news broke, and that she “didn’t know how this would affect my career”.

She told the magazine that she started to write a statement, but realised she had nothing to apologise for.

“I was in a loving, healthy, great relationship for four years,” she said. “It was long distance, and either your boyfriend is going to look at porn or he’s going to look at you.”

She told Vanity Fair: “Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this.

“It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world.”

She called for a change in the law to prevent more leaks and added: “It is not a scandal. It is a sex crime. It is a sexual violation. It’s disgusting.”

Lawrence said of those who carried out the hacking: “I just can’t imagine being that detached from humanity. I can’t imagine being that thoughtless and careless and so empty inside.”

She added: “Anybody who looked at those pictures, you’re perpetuating a sexual offence.”

The US star, who is said to be dating Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, told the November issue of the magazine that one of the most excruciating moments was having to call her father to tell him about the hacking.

“I don’t care how much money I get for The Hunger Games,” she said. “I promise you, anybody given the choice of that kind of money or having to make a phone call to tell your dad that something like that has happened, it’s not worth it.”

She joked: “Fortunately, he was playing golf, so he was in a good mood.”

Model Cara Delevingne and former Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay were among the other stars whose pictures were said to have been posted online, along with Avril Lavigne, Cat Deeley and Rihanna.
