Israel unveils electric car plan

ISRAEL is on schedule to launch a revolutionary electric car grid with dozens of recharge stations to service thousands of vehicles.

It is hoped Israel's model will lead a shift toward electric transportation worldwide, when it is unveiled next year.

When the grid is complete, drivers will be able to recharge their vehicles using plugs installed next to parking spaces. On longer trips, motorists can stop at stations where a machine can replace the lithium ion battery.

Shai Agassi who heads the project said: "Israel has taken on the problem (of oil dependency] and decided to solve it for the world."
