Iran condemns cheap Korans

Iranian publishers have complained that cost-saving measures to print Korans in China mean cheap copies of the Islamic holy book are full of errors.

The head of Iran’s Koran oversight office yesterday said some of the Chinese-printed versions were littered with mistakes.

Ahmad Haji-Sharif warned that cheap Korans contain typo-ridden verses. He noted that Iranian-produced Korans cost more but have passed careful inspection. Korans in Iran contain both a Farsi and Arabic version of the text, said to have been recited to the Prophet by an angel.
