Initial attack on Alhambra

a JORDANIAN tourist was caught carving his initials with a coin into a wall of Spain’s Alhambra palace, considered a jewel of Moorish architecture.

An official, who asked for his name to be withheld, said the incident took place on 13 August and the man was detained, spent a night in jail and appeared before a judge before being released pending trial.

He is charged with damaging Spain’s historic heritage. The official said the damage would be restored.

The Alhambra, or red fort, in the southern city of Granada, is a Unesco world heritage site and Spain’s most-visited tourist attraction. It dates back to the 14th century.
