How you can help the Haiti aid effort

SCOTS were urged to donate cash to help the millions of Haitians struggling to survive in the aftermath of the earthquake that has devastated the island.

The Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) issued a call for urgent funds to provide survivors with clean water, shelter and medical care.

Musician Stuart Murdoch, of Belle and Sebastian, who is backing the appeal, said: "The plight of this very poor country puts our own troubles in relief, and we are glad in Scotland to offer what assistance we can."

• Donations to the DEC Haiti appeal can be made by calling 0370 60 60 900 or through the website www.dec.org.uk
