Guide plane pilot had wrong licence

A PILOT hired by a conservation group to lead young whooping cranes to their winter home in Florida has been grounded in Alabama by federal airline regulators.

The authorities say the bird-like guide plane comes under the category of sports aircraft and that the pilot has the wrong type of licence.

Until the legal wrangle is sorted the ten young birds and their leader have to stay put.
