Greece anti-bailout party inches ahead in polls

THE country’s left-wing opposition party has regained a narrow lead over the ruling conservatives, according to an opinion poll published yesterday.

The survey by Pulse for the 6 Meres newspaper also showed Greeks divided over their government’s tough stance against strikes. It put support for Syriza at 24 per cent, giving it a 1.5 point lead over New Democracy but still within the margin of error of 2.7 per cent. Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ New Democracy party and the anti-bailout Syriza have been neck-and-neck in recent polls.
