Germany: ‘I did it for my daughter’ - Father ‘blows up boyfriend’

Police in the German city of Cologne have arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of blowing up his 14-year-old daughter’s boyfriend.

Prosecutors said yesterday that the suspect appeared to have forced his way into the victim’s apartment late on Monday and poured petrol on the floor.

The petrol evaporated, causing a powerful explosion that hurled the 17-year-old from a fourth-floor window. He died at the scene.

Police said the suspect was also injured in the blast and is in an induced coma. The man had previously threatened the youth as he was unhappy about the relationship with his daughter.

“I did it for my daughter,” he told police. “She was too young for him. He was no good.”
