François Hollande ‘has split from partner’
FRENCH president François Hollande last night announced his separation from partner Valerie Trierweiler.
It is understood the president, 59, personally contacted the Agence France Presse news agency to inform them, despite the Elysée Palace saying earlier in the day that reports of an imminent announcement of a split were false.
The announcement comes two weeks after French magazine Closer published photos apparently showing that Hollande was in a relationship with actress Julie Gayet, 41. It ran pictures of what it said was the president wearing a motorcycle helmet arriving via scooter to visit Gayet.
Trierweiler, 48, spent a week in hospital after the story broke. She is due to travel to India on a trade mission
today.
