Exxon Valdez to be broken up in India

India’s supreme court has ruled the Exxon Valdez tanker, which caused one of the worst oil spills in history in Alaska in 1989, can be dismantled in the country – but required the owner to pay for disposal of any toxic waste.

The ship, now called the Oriental Nicety, entered Indian waters in May but was denied permission to dock.
