Eurostar hit by 24-hour strike

THE Eurostar service to London from Paris was cancelled yesterday after a 24-hour strike was called by Belgium’s rail workers.

Tens of thousands of commuters took to traffic-choked roads to get into Brussels and other major centres. Eurostar cancelled services to Brussels as did Thalys, a joint service run by Belgian, French, Dutch and German railways.

The strike was sparked by a plan to streamline the three firms overseeing train traffic in Belgium.
