All members of Eagles of Death Metal escaped the attack, but crew members were killed as gunmen stormed the venue during a concert by American group.
Eagles of Death Metal band member Jesse Hughes told website VICE that a big reason why so many were killed at the theatre “is because so many people wouldn’t leave their friends.”
He said that only one person – believed to be a child – who hid under his leather jacket in the dressing room survived.
“Several people hid in our dressing room and the killers were able to get in and killed everyone, except for a kid who hid under my leather jacket.” he said.
“So many people put themselves in front of [other] people.”
Fans have described the chaos in the wake of the attacks.
“I crawled on the ground as low as possible without getting up,” said Arthur, one of the Bataclan fans, who didn’t give his last name.
“I scrambled for the emergency exit on the left. We all crawled.”
One German couple survived with a group of others by barricading themselves in a room with a fridge against the door.
Another survivor said about eight people made it through alive by cramming into a tiny bathroom.
Some survived by playing dead among the corpses, while two Scottish women survived along with a pair of Italian fans by hiding in a cupboard.
The Bataclan concert hall saw the highest death toll of the attacks.
