DONALD Trump has launched an astonishing attack on Barack Obama’s election victory, taking to Twitter to suggest that the election was a ‘total sham and a travesty.’

Trump posted a series of tweets shortly after the major news networks called the election for President Obama, starting off with ‘Well, back to the drawing board!’ with the popular vote showing Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney with a narrow lead.

Twelve years ago, George W Bush won the election after a hotly-contested race in Florida, but lost the popular vote.

Launching a broadside at the Electoral College, which enabled observers to call the election for Obama at around 11.12pm eastern time, Trump referred to it as a ‘disaster for a democracy’ and suggested that Obama had ‘lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election’ and that ‘we should have a revolution in this country!’

Minutes later, the magnate posted ‘We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided’.

He added: “Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.”

Trump had opposed Obama throughout his re-election campaign, making repeated requests for his birth certificate, college documents and other personal information.
