Dapper Darwin: Baby monkey in sheepskin coat found outside Ikea store

A BABY monkey clad in a sheepskin coat and diaper was found outside an Ikea store in Toronto yesterday, to the bafflement and amusement of the Swedish furniture chain’s customers, and now, Twitter users worldwide.

The monkey, named Darwin, was seen wandering around the car park by bemused shoppers on Sunday afternoon. Darwin had escaped from his owner’s crate, and made it as far as the store doors before being captured by animal welfare officers.

As of today, the monkey was still trending on Twitter, and is now the subject of two parody accounts.

The owners of the primate, believed to be a rhesus macaque, were reunited with Darwin soon after the incident. However, the rhesus macaque is not a legal pet in Canada, and is likely to be re-housed in an animal sanctuary.
