Czech Republic legalises marijuana use

THE Czech Republic has legalised marijuana for medical use.

President Vaclav Klaus approved the move yesterday, after the Prague parliament supported it.

The new law allows marijuana to be imported and later grown locally by registered firms, licensed to do this.

Patients will need a prescription from a doctor to get the drug at pharmacies and treatment will not be covered by health insurance.

The current ban on growing marijuana at home in Czech Republic remains in place.
