Connecticut shooting: Children find refuge close by

An ELDERLY man who lives near Sandy Hook Elementary School has described how he sheltered six young pupils who survived the shooting after finding them huddled together at the end of his driveway.

Retired psychologist Gene Rosen, 69, says he heard gunfire on Friday morning but dismissed it as a hunter.

He was heading to a restaurant when he found the four girls and two boys.

He says one little boy told him: “We can’t go back to school. Our teacher is dead.”

He took the children in and gave them juice before calling their parents. They said the shooter had a big gun and a little gun. Another boy provided a moment of levity when he said: “Just saying, your house is very small.”
