Clueless tourists franc confession

MANY British tourists are still living in the past when it comes foreign currency – with as many as a third still convinced that the French franc is legal tender.

Meanwhile, 12 per cent believe it's possible to spend pesetas in Spain and 13 per cent think having one million Japanese yen will make them a millionaire when in fact it is worth less than 7,000.

Based on responses from 1,582 holidaymakers, the survey showed 64 per cent were confused by foreign currency, with 51 per cent spending more on holiday as a direct result.

Almost 40 per cent thought they could get two US dollars to the pound when the current rate is actually around $1.53 dollars to one pound sterling.
