China hailed as single-party state

The outgoing head of China’s legislature has praised the country for upholding the ruling Communist Party’s leading role and rejecting Western models of multi-party democracy.

Wu Bangguo’s statements yesterday came in his final address to the National People’s Congress during its annual session, at which Mr Wu and other top leaders will step down following a decade in power.
