Cat named Limberbutt McCubbins enters US presidential race

The moggy, who is the pet of 18-year-old Emilee McCubbins, was entered into the race after the high school teen’s friends persuaded her to put the cat up for election.

Emilee’s friend Isaac Weiss filled out the paperwork, and told NPR that he had received ‘numerous emails’.

Weiss revealed that a number of letters have been sent regarding Limberbutt’s candidacy, with one even asking for proof of the feline’s citizenship.

Other mail asked about possible volunteer opportunities, to try and help get the cat into the White House.

Weiss added: “I got a letter in the mail from a lawyer wanting to represent him. It does not appear that they know that he is a cat.”

It doesn’t break election rules for a committee backing a cat for presidency to be started, a spokesman for the Federal Election Committee admitted.

Animals running for president is not a recent fad, as a dog named Molly was part of the race when Barack Obama was elected in 2008, and in 1968, a pig dubbed Pigasus the Immortal attempted to get into office.

And at a more local level, a dog named Einstein ran for mayor of Oakland while Duke, a Pyrenean Mountain Dog, contested and actually won the race to be crowned mayor of the Minnesota town of Cormorant in August last year.

Other candidates to have filed registration forms for the US presidency include 40-year-old New York bartender Ryan Shephard; “Sydney’s Voluptuous Buttocks”; Crawfish Crawfish; Jack Sparrow; James ‘Titus the Great’ Law; Ole’ Savior and President Emperor Caesar.
