The 30 year old DJ, who holds the record for the most top ten hits from one studio album in the UK, made the tongue in cheek remark, insisting that he was only living in LA for “work reasons” not because of the brilliant weather and “beautiful people.”

Harris, the highest paid DJ in the world last year, moved from Britain to America in 2012 after becoming a regular feature on the US Billboard Hot 100 with his record breaking album 18 Months.

He was speaking on Radio 1 ahead of the debut of his new single Summer, which sees the Dumfries star singing on a track for the first time since collaborating with the likes of Rihanna, Example, Ellie Goulding and Tinie Tempah.

During the interview, on Nick Grimshaw’s breakfast show Harris also insisted that he “was not better than Michael Jackson” despite beating the late singers record for the most top 10 singles from one album.

Jackson’s album Dangerous had held for the most top 10 UK singles for 22 years, with eight, until Harris smashed the record when he charted at number nine, in August 2013, with Thinking About You, his ninth single from 18 Months to reach the top 10.

Following the huge global success of the album in February 2013, Harris signed as the first exclusive resident DJ at the MGM Grand’s Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas, where he now performs a weekly set.

Speaking about moving to LA he said: “I have been living here for a while.

“I got this thing in Vegas where I play a show at a club every single week so the commute from Britain to Vegas was a little full on.

“In 2012 I started spending more and more time over here and then I spent all my time over here.

“One day I’ll be back.

“I wouldn’t have done it if there wasn’t a plausible reason because then people would think I’m just moving out here to be all fancy.

“Which isn’t the case, I can’t stress that enough.”

Harris joked: “It is work related, not because it is hot and full of beautiful people, that is terrible, I’m from Scotland I like rain and cold.

“I’m doing ok out here I’m taking it day by day.”
