Brazil bans breast implant imports

Brazil has temporarily suspended the importation of silicone breast implants.

The ban will remain in place until new quality standards for future imports are defined.

Health concerns emerged last year due to faulty implants sold by the now-defunct French company Poly Implant Prothese and Dutch company Rofil Medical Nederland. The French implants were made with cheap, industrial-grade silicone instead of medical-grade gel.
