Bosnian leader seeks bail

A FORMER Bosnian leader arrested at Heathrow on Monday will appear before the High Court in London today.

Ejup Ganic, 63, was detained after Serbia asked for his extradition on charges of killing wounded Bosnian Serb soldiers during the Balkan wars.

His arrest has triggered a diplomatic battle as Serbian and Bosnian authorities fight for his custody. Bosnian authorities are reported to have dismissed the Serbian extradition request as a political stunt and want him extradited to Sarajevo instead.

It is believed to be the first time that the courts have had to deal with competing extradition requests.

Today, Ganic's legal team will ask the High Court in London to grant bail.
