Body of Scots man swept to death over Canadian waterfall is recovered

THE body of a Scottish tourist, who was swept to his death over waterfalls in Canada, has been recovered.

Andrew Barrie, 50, was on holiday with his wife Carol and son Andrew, 16, when he 
embarked on a river rafting 
trip.

Along with two other people, the former oil executive, from Balloch, Dunbartonshire, was swept over the falls on Kettle River, near Grand Forks in British Columbia.

His son Andrew, who managed to swim to shore, desperately raced down the riverbank in an effort to rescue him.

The bodies of a local couple – Ronald Legare, 74, and his wife Jean, 71 – who were sharing a small inflatable dinghy, were recovered shortly after the accident on 28 July.

Recovery teams discovered Mr Barrie’s remains during a search of the water on Monday afternoon following a week-long search.

His family are now making arrangements to have his body brought home so they can plan his funeral service.
