Beams of hope say New York will never forget the victims of 9/11

Two blue beams light up the Manhattan skyline, marking the spot where the twin towers of the World Trade Centre once stood, in preparation for this weekend’s tributes to mark the ten-year anniversary of 9/11.

The Tribute in Light installation has for the past decade provided an evocative memorial to the 2,753 victims of the terrorist attacks on the anniversary of the atrocity that shook the world. .

On Sunday, the beams will provide a reminder of how the towers dominated the New York skyline from dawn until dusk, as has become tradition every year on 11 September. The powerful rays, from 7,000W lights, can be seen 80 miles away.

Sunday will also mark the opening of the National September Memorial and Museum on the site of Ground Zero.
