Astrolabe disaster pair are deported

THE captain and navigator of cargo ship Rena, which ran aground on New Zealand’s Astrolabe reef spilling tonnes of oil and killing thousands of seabirds last October, have been deported to the Philippines.

The pair spent seven months in jail for operating the ship dangerously.
