American walkers treated after Skye fall

AN AMERICAN couple had to be treated in hospital after falling while walking in Skye.

The pair, on holiday from Michigan, slipped during a walk on a steep gully on the path to the Quiraing at the north end of the Trotternish ridge. The man, aged 59, sustained head injuries after falling about 50ft, while his 52-year-old wife suffered a twisted knee.

Other walkers came to the aid of the couple, as did paramedics, but due to the inaccessible nature of the location, the man had to be airlifted by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter with the help of Skye Mountain Rescue Team.
