20 dead in Nigeria bus tragedy

AT LEAST 20 passengers were killed in Nigeria yesterday when a cable fell on to a bus and electrocuted people inside.

Police confirmed 20 deaths, but a spokeswoman said the toll might climb. More than ten bodies, some charred beyond recognition, were seen at a local hospital in the provincial capital of Port Harcourt. Another ten people were being treated for gashes and burns.

Most of the dead had been passengers aboard the bus, though some were passersby.
