14 died in raid to free hostages

At least three Georgian commandos and 11 militants have been killed during an operation to free hostages held along Georgia’s border with Russia.

Authorities said the raid was launched after militants from Dagestan – facing an Islamist insurgency – crossed into Georgia and kidnapped five people.
