14 children die as bus veers into pond

A BUS veered off the road and into a pond, killing at least 14 schoolchildren yesterday in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Police and volunteers helped rescue some of the children from the bus, which was partly submerged. At least 40 children were in the bus when it crashed.

The bus driver lost control when he swerved to avoid a collision with a motorcycle.
