World War II shell detonated in Fife

A SECOND World War shell found on a beach has been detonated this morning.

Royal Navy bomb disposal experts blew up the ordnance found on the sands at Tentsmuir, Fife, yesterday afternoon.

An "explosive ordnance disposal" team from Faslane was called to the scene last night, along with St Andrews coastguard.

The bomb could not be disposed of because of the foggy weather. Instead it was taken to a high-watermark point on the beach and was given a 400-metre cordon.

The coastguard team stayed at the site overnight, and the bomb was exploded shortly after 9.30am today.
