World of fashion pays tribute to Alexander McQueen

BRITISH designer Alexander McQueen, inset below, spent his career "harnessing his dreams and demons", Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue told fashion's elite at his memorial service yesterday.

Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker, Stella Tennant and Stella McCartney were among the friends and relatives who gathered for the service at St Paul's Cathedral, held during London Fashion Week, to celebrate the life of McQueen, who killed himself the day before his mother's funeral.

Icelandic singer and actress Bjork, wearing a McQueen outfit, sang Gloomy Sunday, a dark song dealing with death and loss.

Ms Wintour paid tribute to "a complex and gifted young man" whose "final collection was a battle between dark and light".
