World News: Ship carrying aid for Gaza is shadowed by Israeli navy

Israeli navy vessels were today shadowing a Libyan-chartered ship carrying aid for Gaza.

The ship, the Moldovan-flagged Amalthea, was reported to be crawling at sea, about 80 miles from the Palestinian territory.

The ship's captain reported engine troubles yesterday and Israeli military officials said he had told them he was heading for the Egyptian port of El-Arish.

But organisers of the Libyan group behind the ship's voyage said they were determined to reach Gaza.

Israel insists the ship will not be allowed to reach Hamas-ruled Gaza.

The latest challenge to the blockade came a day after Israel's military admitted mistakes in the May 31 confrontation aboard a Turkish ship that left nine pro-Palestinian activists dead and brought a wave of world criticism that forced the Jewish state to ease restrictions imposed on the Hamas-ruled territory.

Meanwhile, Israeli bulldozers destroyed six buildings, including at least three homes, in contested east Jerusalem on Tuesday, resuming the demolition of Palestinian property after a halt aimed at encouraging peace talks.

BP delays well cap tests

BP has delayed a key test on a newly installed well cap aimed at stopping the flow of oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

If it proves successful, the well will be kept "shut in" and the leak halted until relief wells plug it entirely.

The blown-out well has been spewing oil into Gulf waters since April. The US administration has sent BP and other parties a new bill.
