Worker killed by falling steel

A MAN has died after he was trapped under steel that fell on him at a port.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the Port and Supply Base in Invergordon in the Highlands at around 8:45am yesterday.

A crane was used to lift the steel off the man, Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service said.

He was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with serious injuries, and later died.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed about the incident.

Northern Constabulary said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
