Work begins on sea wall

THE city council has formally started the hunt for a contractor to repair one of Edinburgh's storm-ravaged sea walls.

Heavy storms in April left widespread damage to the defences along much of the Capital's coastline.

Officials have now advertised the 120,000 contract for a new concrete sea wall at Joppa Pans, as well as the replacement of displaced stones and boulders of the defence system around the sea wall.

The total cost of repairing the damaged defences is expected to exceed 500,000 and some work is already under way.
