Women take over at uni

A NUMBER of buildings at Edinburgh University were today set to be renamed after women to mark International Women's Day.

Only two university buildings are permanently named after women - the Crystal Macmillan building in George Square, named after the suffragist, and the Ann Walker building at King's Buildings.

Those to be honoured include education pioneer Sophie Jex Blake, physician and chemist Marie Curie, and Elsie Maud Inglis, whose philanthropy and studies advanced women's healthcare in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
