Women suffer homophobic abuse in attack

TWO women were subjected to homophobic abuse and had gravel thrown at them during an attack in Leith.

Police say the happened at around 2am yesterday morning as the pair made their way along Duke Street towards Lochend Road following a night out.

The women, aged 34 and 35 were then subjected homophobic abuse by two men who were walking in the opposite direction. The men then picked up gravel from the ground and threw it.

One of the women had gravel thrown directly in her face before both men ran off towards Leith Links.

A police spokesman said: "While neither woman was injured, this was an unpleasant incident which left them both slightly unsettled.

"We ask that anyone who was on Duke Street at the time of the incident and has any information that can help with our enquiries to contact police immediately."

The first man is described as white, aged 20-25-years-old, approximately 5ft 9ins with an overweight build. He had crew cut mousy brown hair and a round face that was clean-shaven. He was wearing jeans and a pale grey zipper anorak with a hood.

The second male is described as white, aged 20-25-years-old, 5ft 10ins with a slim build and brushed forward spiky bleached-blonde hair. He was clean-shaven and wearing a retro-style white jacket with light coloured panels and jeans.
